Aimee Bender and Trinie Dalton in LA

Join Aimee Bender and Trinie Dalton for a reading at Family Bookstore in Los Angeles on Thursday, January 28, at 7:30 pm. Aimee is the author of The Third Elevator, a story about a swan, a bluebird, and a village of miners and loggers; she's also the author of the acclaimed story collections The Girl in the Flammable Skirt and Willful Creatures, and of the novel An Invisible Sign of My Own. Trinie is the author of Sweet Tomb, a story about a witch named Candy, coming to terms with her inherited lifestyle and learning to eat meat; her other books include the story collection Wide Eyed, the novella A Unicorn Is Born, and the harder to describe but equally brilliant anthologies Dear New Girl or Whatever Your Name Is and MYTHTYM.

A Q&A and signing will immediately follow the reading, which is free and open to the public. Please note that all proceeds from the sales of The Third Elevator will benefit InsideOUT Writers, a non-profit organization that offers free creative writing courses to students in LA-area juvenile detention centers; all proceeds from Sweet Tomb will benefit The Theodore Payne Foundation, a non-profit wildflower habitat in Sun Valley, CA.

The amazing artist-run curatorial project, gallery space, and bookmaking center Las Cienagas Projects is also hosting a series of zine-centered talks, workshops, and exhibitions with Trinie Dalton. The exhibition will showcase excerpts from zines created in a bookmaking workshop led by Trinie, while the talk will be divided into 3 parts, covering Bruno Munari's Xerografia project, copy art, and the history of zines.

Slide talk: Friday, January 22, 8pm. Free and open to the public.
Workshop*: Friday, January 22, 5pm-10pm (by reservation only; includes slide talk).
Exhibition: January 23 - February 20. Opening reception on Saturday, January 23, 7-10pm.
